Why? It was recently announced that NETC would open a satellite campus in McBee to teach welding. This begs the question, why? Why is NETC building another campus to serve at best class sizes measured in single digits when the enrollment throughout the system is down by almost 24%? Wouldn’t it be more prudent to spend the tens of thousands of dollars a new campus would require on developing a state-of-the-art facility on the main campus that would cover all aspects of the art of welding? It is time that the leadership of NETC plans a future that will give the citizens of Chesterfield, Dillon, and Marlboro counties the highly trained workforce that brings the type of jobs that will enhance the lifestyles of these counties rather than just building facilities that will dilute the educational offerings of this institution.
