Standards of truth are now a myth regarding our media outlets.  Further, it has long been disregarded by politicians.   Every storm now is the “Storm of the Century.”  Every weather event is now due to “Man-made Climate Change.”  Every event outside of normal daily routines is a crisis.  The latest hurricane to hit Florida, Hurricane Milton, is just one example of this problem.

Don’t get me wrong; any hurricane or extreme weather event must be treated as a possible life-threatening event.  But with that said, not every storm is the “Storm of the Century” or the “Worst storm to Ever Hit” in a particular area.  Two hurricanes that have hit Florida in the last 60 years or so come to mind: Hurricane Donna in 1960 and Hurricane Andrew in 1992.  If you click the pictures below, you can read about these hurricanes and the damage that resulted when they landed.  Their power was more significant than Hurricane Milton, and the destruction they left behind was on the same or a greater scale than what happened last night.

One thing that people should start to understand is that as the population increases and people migrate to the shorelines of this country, damage from these events will be greater on a dollar basis. However, a dollar basis does not equate to the power or destructive nature of the storm. It is merely a measurement of fiscal damage.

The hysterical claims by moronic politicians, followed by incompetent reporting by an equally moronic bunch of supposed newscasters, are something the general public has to realize is nothing but an attempt to sensationalize weather events that are not frequent but are normal.  It is time for the general public to grow up, learn, and think for themselves.
