Political Retribution in Chesterfield County

This is a letter that I have sent to The Link concerning a very patriotic, civic-minded citizen of Chesterfield County.  Let’s see if The Link dares to print it.

Recently, a Chesterfield County School employee was informed, in person, by a member of the school board and a School Resource Officer that he would no longer be allowed on school property without an armed SRO escorting him.  The question here is why?

The employee was given no advanced notification of the action being taken.  He cannot review this decision, and further, no documentation was given to him for the reason this action was taken.  The only conclusion for this has to be one of retribution.

I am speaking about someone who has been active in local politics and can sometimes be controversial.  But should this be a justification to persecute a person who has dedicated himself to the needs of our youth?  Should a person be required not to exercise his constitutional rights as a citizen to please a higher authority?

It is time to ask a simple question: is employment in the Chesterfield School System based on qualifications or political affiliation?  The citizens of Chesterfield County are owed an answer to this question.

Time for Rational Change at NETC

It has come to my attention that a minority of the female persuasion will fill a recent opening on the NECT Board of Directors.  Although this might be politically correct, one must ask, “Is this the type of person who should be helping to direct a technical institution, a person who has no technical background?”

Now, this person, according to what I have learned, has been associated with another technical college in an administrative role but not a technical role.  Once again, is this what NETC needs?

When running any organization, it should be directed by people who have expertise in what that organization is trying to accomplish.  The Board of Directors of NETC should be no different.  It is long past the time for the citizens of Chesterfield County to stand up and demand that Northeastern Technical College become a shining star in the technical college system of South Carolina.
