A Disgrace!

A friend recently shared a link with me revealing the substantial funding the State of South Carolina provides to Chesterfield County for primary education. While this funding is significant, the low return on investment in educational outcomes is alarming. This matter demands our immediate attention and action.

I have captured the “Quick Facts” for the Chesterfield School System here:

Please make a note of the following:

Percentage of Students meeting or exceeding expectations in ELA and Math:

30.1%

Percentage of Students meeting or exceeding expectations in English and Language Arts:

34.8%

Percentage of Students meeting or exceeding expectations in Math:

25.5%

These results are unacceptable and need to be addressed with all urgency.

If you go to the funding tab and click Chesterfield County, you will find that less than 50% of the spending is directed to Instructional.  Almost 52% goes to other items, with nearly 25% going to Operations and slightly less than 8% to Leadership!  This means that at least one-third of the spending has nothing to do with educating the student!

With numbers like that, no business in the world would ever be successful.  Why, in the name of all that is holy, should the taxpayers of Chesterfield County consider this a proper expenditure of our money?  Even the funds provided by the state reflect a good portion of what was paid by Chesterfield residents.

Here is the link to the website.  Please go there and learn just how screwed up the education system in Chesterfield County is.  Just remember, you are paying for it just like I am.
