Today, we celebrate a truly American holiday based not on an event but on the need to acknowledge a power beyond our capability to understand that of a creator who has blessed us with our lives and the inspiration it brings.
Even though we have been taught that the idea of a Thanksgiving feast is an American birthright established by the Pilgrims, I believe that Abraham Lincoln defined it like no other. In the middle of a conflagration that threatened to destroy the union, he realized that it was beholden to Americans to give thanks for their gifts and the hope that tomorrow would bring a healing that encompassed all of America.
So, when you sit down with the most prized possessions you have, that of your family and friends, continue to realize that we still do live in the greatest country on the face of the earth and that we have only ourselves to look inward to for the continuing blessings that our God gives us every day of our lives.
